NBA superstar LeBron James ignited criticism after his incendiary tweet doxing the Ohio police officer who saved the life of a teenage black girl. The officer shot the young attacker, who was only seconds away from stabbing another young woman to death, and has since been vilified by a corrupt media.
James seems to believe that his 50 million Twitter followers qualify him as a modern-day civil rights icon. He tweeted a picture of the hero-cop who took out the knife-wielding 16-year-old Ma’Khia Bryant before she could plunge the knife into her intended victim. The caption read, “YOU’RE NEXT”, seen by many as a threat.
The hotheaded James quickly deleted the ill-advised tweet, possibly out of legal concern that it could have incited one of his cult-like followers to do something really stupid. However, the damage was done and it could end up removing some of the shine off the halo that has been put over his head by the media.
One man who certainly understands much about stabbings took to his own Twitter account to scold LeBron: former NFL star O.J. Simpson. According to “the Juice” LeBron shouldn’t have shot from the hip until all of the facts were in.
In a short video posted to his own Twitter account O.J. said, “I’m a fan of Lebron, I admire the work that he’s done, how he’s helped his community, and how he’s helped his friends and how he’s been fightin’ all of these social issues, especially that of systemic racism in the legal system and with the police departments around our country, but you can’t fight every battle.”
Simpson continued, “you gotta pick your battles. I mean, it’s a war that must be fought but sometimes you need to take your time and be a little more patient before you comment on some of these bad incidents that are happening with police departments, “this one, LeBron should have waited.”
O.J. then turned his criticism toward a media that spun what had really happened in order to make Ma’Khia Bryant into a victim. All to further the dishonest narrative that cops are hunting black people down in the streets.
“I’m a little upset with most of the media because they showed us edited versions of what took place with the girl with the knife,” he said, “they made it sound as if this was another police officer overreacting and killing a young black American.”
He added, “Well from what I saw when I saw the full tape, police… guy had no choice, he responded, we wish he could have pulled a taser, we wish he would have done it in another way, but in that instance, if he hadn’t done what he did, it appeared to me that another young American would have had would have had her life taken.”
Simpson concluded, “LeBron, keep fightin’ the fight, I think we all gotta be a little more patient, I’m against defunding the police, I just think you gotta redirect some of those funds to better training and maybe dealing with more psychological training.”
Simpson beat the murder rap for the grisly 1994 knife murder of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and waiter Ronald Goldman. Both had the misfortune of being in the wrong place at the wrong time and paid with their lives. O.J. may not be the ideal spokesman, but it is going to be up to black Americans to start calling out King James for his angry and divisive rhetoric.
